Trim a voice memo in the browser

Voice memos are often longer than you need — dead air at the start, a long pause, or a second topic at the end. Drop the M4A, WAV, or MP3 into LocalAudioCut, set start/end around the part you want, and download the shorter clip. The recording stays in browser memory.

Why local matters for memos

Memos may include personal names, medical context, or workplace discussion. Uploading them to a random “online trimmer” creates an unnecessary copy on someone else’s disk. Here the File API reads the file in-tab; close the tab when you are done.

Steps

  1. Export the memo from your phone’s Voice Memos / Recorder app to Files or a computer if the browser cannot see it yet.
  2. Open the local cutter.
  3. Drop the file. Note the size in the meta line.
  4. Set start/end in seconds. The waveform is drawn from the decoded samples so you can avoid cutting a word.
  5. Cut on this device and download.

Messaging and email

Shorter clips are easier to attach. If you still hit a size cap, see trim for email and prefer the MP3 download — WAV can be larger than the memo you started with. M4A/AAC memos usually decode in Chrome and Safari; Firefox often cannot, so export WAV or MP3 from the recorder if the cutter reports a decode error. Messaging apps may also re-encode audio on send — that is their behavior, not ours.
